How we research causes and advice
Our explanations of eye bag causes are based on public information from the NHS, the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Cleveland Clinic, which we link on every page. We do not give medical diagnoses, and our free 2-minute eye bag test is a guide, not a medical assessment. Where there is a safety issue — sudden, painful or one-sided swelling, allergies, changes in vision — we always point you to a pharmacist, optician, GP or NHS 111 first.
How we choose the routines we recommend
When we suggest a product routine, we look at:
- Actives — whether the ingredients are well suited to the job (for example caffeine and cooling for puffiness; peptides, niacinamide and hydrating ingredients for the look of firmer skin).
- Formula focus — whether the product is designed for the under-eye area and for the cause it's recommended for.
- Texture and wear — how pleasant and easy it is to use every day, before make-up or in a quick morning routine.
- Availability — whether it can be ordered easily in the UK.
- Value — whether the amount you get is fair for regular use.
- Honesty — we avoid recommending anything as a cure. Creams and patches can give a temporary, visible improvement in how the skin looks; they cannot remove structural or genetic bags.
